Year After Year, You Come Back Again
I think almost every people have a memorable
places in their life. A place where they spend times with person who are they loved. Sometimes you want to back again, hope that the place still has same sense as a while you are first coming, year to year after you leave it.
While I was sitting in Tugu railway station
to wait for the next train, the old man who was sitting behind me suddenly asked; “ where would you go?” I want to go to Surakarta sir. He seem kind and well educated, then we began make a conversation. He was from Jakarta and
had come to Yogyakarta to holiday for a week. He had studied at forestry faculty, Gadjah Mada
University in 1988. Having graduated bachelor degree, he decided to working and living in Jakarta.
According to Mr Sumarto, Yogyakarta has
many memorable places, Malioboro is one of best. In the weekend, especially in night, this place always crowded, filled by retailers who sell handicraft,
food, and t- shirt. The visitors
dominated by youth and tourist, they usually came from the places outside of Yogyakarta.
The colour of nightlight and statue
features on pedestrian create a beautiful landscape, as like walking
in alley where both sides full of commercial building. Indeed, the
visitors could reach the historical and monumental building such as Bank
Indonesia building, Vestenberg fortress, and Palace of Yogyakarta by walking
least than ten minutes from Malioboro.
The combination of shopping, historical,
and cultural tourism building in the night are exquisite, would have made everyone fall
in love with this place. At the weekend, the local artist often hold an event
on outdoor, so the visitor could see the event as free. Local music performance,
art exhibition, and traditional dance would be adding attractiveness to admit more visitors.
Consequently, the price of food and hotel
around it are expensive than ordinary. I am with my friends preferred enjoying a night in “
Angkringan” to chatting about the young life matter and back to the rent house
after midnight. We only want to experience the night moment and avoid to take
out more money.
Mr Sumarto recounted the story very clearly
to me. I looked his face still yearn to what the happen for thirty years ago.
But he knows that the story was ended. The rain falling heavy and the wind blowing
faster on the outside of the Station. I looked clock and match them with the
schedule of depart on the ticket, ten minutes again the train would go off. I should
immediately get in train before I fall behind.
